Hi guys, today menu will be Herring roe or Kazunoko roe. This is a tiny fish eggs used as a offerings for Japanese New Year Feast (Osechi-Ryori).

Because Kazunoko or herring roe has a plenty of tiny roe, people consider it as a simple for bountiful harvest, or fertility. Eating herring roe or any kind of fish roe on the first day of New Year is believed to bring prosperity of many children and as a prayer for healthy children.

This tiny fish roe taste sweet, sticky and slightly crunchy. Marinated herring roe are salty and easy to crumble when it enters to your mouth.
