Sleep Like a Rock (ASMR)

00:00:00 A twine-wrapped parcel containing several rocks acquired from a local creek is brought to you. In silence, each rock is meticulously examined for its tingle and sleep inducing properties, in an effort to help you experience ASMR, sleep, relax, or perhaps help you focus on your work, studies or creative process.

00:00:50 A few remarks about the current task are made in a notebook.
00:01:35 The large parcel is carefully opened.
00:04:27 Smaller, individual parcels containing the rocks are revealed.
00:07:00 Each small parcel is carefully opened one at a time, with each rock quietly observed for a moment.

00:23:40 The task at hand begins: the notebook is used once again to keep record of the qualities of each rock as it is examined, which consists of using the point and eraser of a sharpened pencil to gently scratch and tap upon the surface.
00:53:00 After examining each rock individually, the rocks are gently tapped and scraped against each other in order to further observe the sounds that they create in this manner.

01:04:50 A dry brush is used to gently clear any debris off the rocks.
01:07:09 The rocks are cleaned using the brush and a bowl of water.
01:14:19 The rocks are submersed into the bowl for a final cleaning and rinsing.
01:17:20 A hand towel is used to dry off the rocks.

01:21:10 The session is complete and final notes are made.

What is ASMR? It is both a sensation and a medium.

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current, non-scientific name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It’s like goosebumps, but much more pleasant.

ASMR videos are meant to intentionally help induce this sensation, also referred to as “tingles”, but also provide a relaxing, calming, soothing, therapeutic and even entertaining experience for the viewer.

Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
